On Monday February 24 2019, Amir and I flew to Honolulu for ~ 1 week to chill. We stayed in a condominium in Punaluu on the North Shore. Snorkeled, walked the beach. In a vain search for turtles. But the beach was nice and the weather came around and it was swell.
On Wednesday we drove into Honolulu. Hit the swap meet at Aloha Stadium. Visited Hiroko who was bright and cheerful. We shared bento box lunches with her.
On Thursday we drove to Kawela Bay. Scattered Jeri's ashes (and Mia's). 'Twas thought-provoking...
On Sunday we drove to Honolulu to
undertake a test:
hike the Kuliouou trail.
I wasn't at all sure I could make it anymore.
But I (sort of) did.
I was OK at the half-way point at the top of the ridge.
But coming down Amir spotted me on the tricky sections.
I flamed out really badly on the last 1/4.
Could hardly walk. Wayne and Wenjing each took a turn propping
me up when I threatened to fall over backwards.
Successful or not? Dunno but I enjoyed it!
After the hike Amir and I parted company. My flight out on Monday was much earlier than Amir's. He went back to Punaluu to try for more beach time. And I stayed at Wayne and Wenjing's. Had a marvellous Burmese dinner and enjoyed my already sore legs. Thank you Wayne and Wenjing for the hospitality! And Wenjing for the ride to the airport Monday AM!
